World Silambam Association

The World Silambam Association (WSA) (Tamil: உலக சிலம்பம் சங்கம்) is the official international body of silambam for Worldwide and International Non-Government Organisation (INGO).[5] In October 1999, the primary name of Silambam initiated and formed in Singapore to become official name of arts and sports organisation by Guruji Murugan Chillayah. In 2014, organisation named Silambam legally registered and recognised as more formalised organisation after security clearance approved by Singapore Regulatory Board. It was followed with new formation of Silambam Asia in Singapore, is the Silambam organization recognised by the United Nations and has members of five countries in Asia continent, and to expand growing further throughout the world accordance with sustainable development goals of United Nations.[6] In 2018, to preserve and rejuvenate the traditional arts and cultural content within Silambam at worldwide by establishment of World Silambam Association with Ministry of Home Affairs (JPPM) in Malaysia.[7]

Mission and values

Founder of World Silambam Association was elected as a Speaker for UIA-TCEB during 7th. Round Table Asia-Pacific 2019 in Pattaya, Thailand. Honored and welcomed by Director of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) Mr. Sutichai Bunditvorapoom.[8][9]

The mission of World Silambam Association (WSA) is to provide effective international governance by constantly improve technical rules and regulating Silambam competitions or participation in International events or sporting arena, to be recognised as Olympic sport and Paralympic sport.

World Silambam Association (WSA) also play active roles as organiser of international arts, sporting, cultural, education and delegate participants of dissemination organisation for Indian Traditional Arts. In this role it provides expertise in, for associated members in effort to provide Trainings, Research, Revive, Rejuvenate, Retention and Restore.

By establishing Silambam arts and sports games that group together similar sports, Silambam Asia aims to promote the members and the members' visibility worldwide.

Silambam Age Divisions

Official Silambam World Championship Age Divisions (சிலம்பம் வயது பிரிவு) for both Boys and Girls in Individual and Team. Athletes under 13-years of age are not allowed to play in any official Silambam World Championship, also in the events organized either under the auspices or sanctioned by the World Silambam Association. The lower age limit for all Tournaments is 13-years (calendar year on Tournament Registration Date).

National Federation (NF) should use the term YOUTH to define “Cadets” and “Juniors” for age groups from 13-18 years, that are different to the Cadet and Junior ages.

The following age categories are recognized by the World Silambam Association (WSA) categories which is divided into men and women divisions, and classified into as follows:

Silambam Weight Divisions

Tournament Format and Schedules for the Silambam World Championship.

The Tournaments: Masters, Continental Championship Senior, Junior and Cadet, World Championship Senior, Junior and Cadet - normally consist of two sessions, the preliminaries and the final block. The Tournament phases that take place in the sessions depend on the type of event. Any changes to this will be agreed and approved by the World Silambam Association (WSA). Depending on the number of the Silambam Players some rounds may not be required for every category. The Silambam World Championship events schedule for non-World Silambam Association (WSA) should be agreed by all interested parties.

Players will be weigh using electronic weighing machine. Must be within the weight criteria.

Silambam World Championship required the competitors to be in good physical condition. It required a lot of stamina and endurance to be able to compete in this event. Any overweight or not within weight criteria will not allowed to participate in the Silambam Sports event due to health concern.
