Study for the Madonna of the Cat

Study for the Madonna of the Cat is a set of two drawings by Leonardo da Vinci on both sides (front and back) of a sheet of paper 13 centimeters high and 9.4 centimeters wide. The two drawings were made with pen and brown ink, with brown wash, on a preparatory plot. This is one of the six works of Leonardo da Vinci showing the Virgin and Child playing with a cat or carrying it. A mirror symmetry between the drawings of the two faces is visible by transparency. The Study for the Cat Madonna is currently held at the British Museum in London under inventory number 1856,0621.1.[1][2]

A fan of Leonardo studies Massimo Grandicelli asserts that the Madonna of the Cat preserved in the British Museum hides Leonardo's head in the likeness of a cat. The eyes can be distinguished, the left looking at the drawing just below the forearm of the Madonna, the right hidden under the child's leg, the sketches on the sides and bottom of the drawing reveal the contours of the face. this discovery led him long ago to write the historical novel "In the year of the cat" remained incomplete.
