Oxford (CDP), Massachusetts

Oxford is located at 42°6′42″N 71°52′8″W (42.111855, -71.868916).[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.6 km² (3.7 mi²). 9.1 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (5.91%) is water.

At the 2000 census there were 5,899 people in 2,282 households, including 1,567 families, in the CDP. The population density was 650.7/km² (1,683.9/mi²). There were 2,370 housing units at an average density of 261.4/km² (676.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.36% White, 0.51% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.20% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.64%.[2]

Of the 2,282 households 31.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.3% were non-families. 26.7% of households were one person and 12.7% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.11.

The age distribution was 23.6% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% 65 or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males.

The median household income was $50,866 and the median family income was $58,030. Males had a median income of $42,306 versus $28,611 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $21,149. About 5.8% of families and 9.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.7% of those under age 18 and 5.5% of those age 65 or over.
