In 2018, Times Internet acquired a majority stake in MX Player for $140 million.[2]
History
Video Player
MX Player launched as a video player in 18th July 2011. It featured subtitle support and offline video viewing capabilities.
OTT Platform
On 20 February 2019, MX Player was relaunched as an OTT platform with original programming. It has licensed contents from various Indian and International studios; Filmrise, Sonar Entertainment, Screen Media, Hungama, Shemaroo, Goldmine to name a few.
International Expansion
Initially available in India, in March 2020, MX Player announced the launch of its OTT service internationally to select markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh and Nepal. Elsewhere, it is still a video player.
