Diplomatic relations

Bilateral relations between Spain and CAR have been framed in the Africa Plan. In the field of development cooperation, it is carried out especially through multilateral organizations. In the field of defense, Spain is firmly committed to security in Africa in general and RCA in particular and therefore participated in the EUFOR-RCA mission of the European Union with almost a hundred military personnel and currently in the mission EUMAMRCA with 18 soldiers and collaborates with the French operation Sangaris from Libreville where it has displaced a transport plane and 60 soldiers.[4]

Within the framework of this collaboration, the former RCA Minister of Cooperation participated in several cooperation meetings in Madrid. Likewise, the Minister of Defense of Spain, Mr. Pedro Morenés, visited Bangui last June 15 of 2014 to meet his counterpart and visit the Spanish troops deployed in the country.[4]

Economic relations

The quantitative importance of Spanish exports is very small. However, foreign trade data may not be fully representative, since much of the products imported by CAR are introduced via Cameroon.[5]

After losing ground against other countries, in 2011 the figure of Spanish exports reached 2.61 million euros and in 2012 it continued to recover until reaching 3.3 million euros. However, the situation of instability caused the collapse of trade with the GDR, reflecting a new drop in exports.[5]

Cooperation

Although there is no OTC in CAR, there were certain finalist projects in 2012 through organizations such as:[6]

  • OCHA: €300,000
  • WHO: €500,000 for a program for the promotion of coordinated management of childhood diseases and strengthening immunization routines in the northern and southern regions.

In 2013, Spain allocated €500,000 to serve Central African refugees present in Cameroon and Chad. $216,000 through the Central Emergency Response Fund of the UN-OCHA, $269,760 through INTERMON-OXFAM to support CAR refugees in Chad and €500,000 for MSF activities in the Central African region of Ndelé in 2014 .
