Bettiah (Vidhan Sabha constituency)

Bettiah (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Hindi: बेतिया विधान सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is an assembly constituency in Paschim Champaran district in the Indian state of Bihar. In 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, Bettiah will be one of the 36 seats to have VVPAT enabled electronic voting machines.[1][2]

Overview

As per orders of Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies Order, 2008, 8. Bettiah (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Bettiah community development block; and Mohaddipur, Majhaulia, Parsa, Bahuarawa, Gudara, Jaukatia, Bakharia, Rulahi, Rajabhar, Karamawa, Lal Saraiya, Ramnagar Bankat, Amawa Majhar, Majharia Sheikh, Ahawar Kuria, Madhopur, Senuwaria and Bishambharpur gram panchayats of Majhaulia CD Block.[3]

Bettiah (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of 2. Paschim Champaran (Lok Sabha constituency).[3] It was earlier part of Bettiah (Lok Sabha constituency).

Election results

1977-2010

In the November 2010, October 2005, February 2005 and 2000 state assembly elections, Renu Devi of BJP won the 8 Bettiah assembly seat defeating her nearest rivals, Anil Kumar Jha, Independent, in November 2010, and Md. Shamim Akhtar of Congress /Independent in the other three elections. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Birbal Yadava of JD defeated Dr. Madan Prasad Jaiswal of BJP in 1995. Dr. Madan Prasad Jaiswal of BJP defeated Nageswar Na. Shahi, Independent, in 1990. Gauri Shankar Pandey of Congress defeated Ahmad Ali of CPI in 1985, Sheo Shankar Kanodia, Independent, in 1980 and Madan Lal Sinhania of Janata Party in 1977.[4][5]
