As they are the only two participating teams which can pass the club licensing requirements for the AFC Champions League, regardless of the cup winners, the league runners-up and 3rd place will qualify as Japan 2 and Japan 3 respectively (AFC Champions League group stage), and the 4th place will qualify as Japan 4 (AFC Champions League qualifying play-offs).
