Yuga Purushudu (English: Man of the Era) is a 1978 Telugu action film produced by C. Ashwini Dutt under the Vyjayanthi Movies banner[2] and directed by K. Bapayya.[3] It stars N. T. Rama Rao and Jaya Prada and has music composed by K. V. Mahadevan.[4] The film was remade as the Hindi film Mard Ki Zabaan (1987).[5]

Plot

The film begins with Pushpagiri Zamindar’s (Prabhakar Reddy) daughter Janaki (Pushpalata), who loves and marries an ordinary man, Ranganna (Kanta Rao). After some time, they are blessed with a baby boy, Kalyan. Knowing this, the Zamindar feels happy and asks his nephew Dhananjay (Dhulipala) to bring her back. But here Dhanunjaya makes a crooked plan, he tries to kill the child in the name of the Zamindar. Ranganna along with his younger brother Jaggu (Jaggayya) obstructs his way. Janaki escapes with the child and hands over him to Zamindar's loyal servant Balaram (Rao Gopal Rao). Balaram says that he will protect the child at any cost and he gives his children Anand and Madhavi to the rear. Meanwhile, Ranganna dies in that quarrel and Jaggu becomes a dacoit to take avenge against the Zamindar. After that, Kalyan is sent to Singapore through Balaram's brother Banerjee (Rajanala) and he grows up under the name of Rajesh. Years roll by, Rajesh (N. T. Rama Rao) becomes the king of martial arts, he defeats many worldwide champions. Latha, granddaughter of Pusphagiri Zamindar is a hardcore fan of Rajesh and they both get acquainted and fall in love.

Once in a competition, the committee members announce a cash reward of Rs 25000 for the person who defeats Rajesh. Anand (Chandra Mohan) competes with Rajesh to protect his deceased mother who is none other than Janaki and to perform the marriage of his sister Madhavi (Madhavi). In the ring, Rajesh asks Anand to back out because he is not capable of fighting with him. But he does not listen, is wounded very badly and dies. Before dying he calls and explains his situation. Now Rajesh is under contrition and wants to make penance for his sin. So, he stops his profession and gives his entire property as compensation. Rajesh decides to take care of Anand’s mother and sister, he reaches there and asks Madhavi to accept him as his brother. She requests him not to tell this truth to their mother. Rajesh takes them to the city, joins Janaki in the hospital and starts working as a taxi driver for their livelihood.

One night Latha, escaping from some goons who are trying to kill her, is saved by Rajesh. When he asks what really happened, she reveals that she is the granddaughter of the Zamindar, she has a cousin Kalyan who has been absconding since childhood, now she is the only heir for the property, that's why her maternal uncle Dhanunjaya and his son Maruti Rao (Satyanarayana) want to get rid of her for the property. So, she requests Rajesh to come to her rescue by acting as Kalyan, and he agrees. Knowing that Kalyan is arriving, Dhanunjay and Maruti Rao want to eliminate him from their way. Fortunately, they contact Rajesh for this crime. Rajesh plays a double game and enters the house as Kalyan. After coming into the house he gets more affectionate towards his paralyzed grandfather and he also comes to know that these culprits are giving slow poison to him. So, he starts teaching them a lesson and makes his grandfather normal.

After that, Rajesh comes to know that the Zamindar has a threat on his life from the dacoit Jaggu. So, he wants to catch him when he enters into his den; the quarrel arises between them. In the fight, Jaggu recognizes Rajesh himself as Kalyan by the tattoo on his chest. Rajesh explains Jaggu clearly that the Zamindar is innocent and the real culprit is Dhananjay. Dhananjay and Maruti Rao sense this and give bad propaganda to Zamindar that Rajesh is Jaggu’s man who killed Kalyan and entered the house to grab the property. When Rajesh reaches home, the Zamindar beats him when he observes Janaki’s photograph, recognizes her and says that he will bring her back to prove his innocence. He immediately rushes for her. Eventually, Dhanunjaya and Maruthi Rao kidnap them. At last Rajesh sees their end and protects his family. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Rajesh and Latha.
