The Wyoming State Museum is a free state-run museum established in 1895 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It is the official state repository for material concerning Wyoming history and cultural heritage.[1]
Permanent exhibit themes include coal, wildlife, fossils, Wyoming settlement, Native American culture and history, the National Park Service in Wyoming, and other Wyoming-related issues. The museum also hosts a variety of temporary exhibits and provides traveling exhibits to cultural institutions in Wyoming and surrounding states. In 2017 the museum opened a children's area called the Hands-On Habitats Lab. The exhibit features interactive exhibits that teach visitors about the flora and fauna in 5 Wyoming habitats.[1]
The museum hosts a variety of programs throughout the year including lectures, exhibit receptions, and family programs. The Family Days series is a free program that provides children and their families with fun and educational opportunities to explore Wyoming's natural and cultural resources. The program is held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first Saturday of the month, October through May.[1]
