This exercise saw a high degree of chaos as people were forced to stand in queues outside banks and ATMs to withdraw new currency bills, which were not printed in adequate numbers. The situation saw close to 90 people dying, often out of exhaustion and stress, having had to queue up on days together. Sahasrabuddhe, when asked to comment about it, called it a mere accident and said that people died even while they queued up to collect their food rations.[10]
