Starship Entertainment (Hangul: 스타쉽 엔터테인먼트) is a South Korean entertainment company established in 2008 by founder Kim Shi Dae.
The prestigious label is home to K-Pop artists such as K.Will, Soyou, Boyfriend, Jooyoung, Monsta X, Yoo Seung-woo, Brother Su, Cosmic Girls, #Gun, Mind U, Duetto, Jeong Se-woon,[2][3][4] and formerly to Sistar and Junggigo. It also manages the actors Choi Won-myeong, Dasom and Kang Eun-ah. It operates in three main locations and is staffed with approximately 200 employees, funded by both commercial investors and it’s parent company, Kakao M.
History
The company's founder, Kim Shi-dae, previously worked as a road manager for a K-pop band named Cool and worked for Bang Si-hyuk's company Big Hit Entertainment between 2005 and 2007 before establishing his own company. Starship's first artist was K.Will, followed by Sistar, Boyfriend, Monsta X, and Cosmic Girls.
On 18 December 2013, 70% of the label's shares was acquired by its distributor, LOEN Entertainment (now kakao M), making it an independent subsidiary of the latter.[5]
In May 2015, Starship Entertainment had acquired 100% of King Kong Entertainment’s shares in a strategic partnership alliance. On January 2, 2017 Starship Entertainment and King Kong Entertainment registered their merger. The agencies mutually agreed to use the name Starship Entertainment while the division that manages the actors will be operating under the label “King Kong by Starship”.
