    National Highway 1 is a national highway in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. It is the first primary national highway under new numbering system of India. NH 1 comprises parts of old NH1A and NH1D.[1][2]

    Route

    Uri, Baramulla, Srinagar, Sonamarg, Zoji La, Dras, Kargil and Leh. The route passes through high mountain passes and most of the road cut from mountains clings to mountain sides. The NH is the life line of Ladakh region though another route Leh-Manali Highway over even higher mountain passes exists.

    Transport

    The Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) operates regular Deluxe and Ordinary bus services between Srinagar and Leh on this route with an overnight halt at Kargil. Taxis (cars and jeeps) are also available at Srinagar for the journey.
