Sabil-Kuttab-Wakala of Sultan Qa'it Bay

Sabil-Kuttab-Wakala of Sultan Qa'it Bay is a complex of wakala (inn), sebil and kuttab built by Sultan Al-Ashraf Abu Al-Nasr Qaitbay in 882 AH / 1477 CE, located in Islamic Cairo, the historic medieval district of Cairo, Egypt. It is one of the two wakalas built by Sultan Qaitbay during his reign, another one being Wakala al-Sultan Qaitbay at Bab Al-Nasr street.[1] Adjacent sebil-kuttab sits at the western end of the wakala. The ground floor is still inhabited, and several damages can be observed, especially on the interior courtyard.[1]

Architecture

The facade of wakala is built by stone, along with the entry portal of the sabil-kuttab. Inscriptions are seen on many parts of the building including the facade and entry portal. The entrance of wakala is decorated with muqarnas as well. Mashrabiya window can be seen on top of the entrance of the sabil-kuttab.[1]
