The Palaruvi Express is a daily Intercity express train which runs between Tirunelveli Junction in Tamil Nadu and Palakkad Junction in Kerala. From 9 July, 2018 it is extended to Tirunelveli Junction instead of Punalur. The introduction of 4 Sleeper Class coaches with reservation for overnight travel is expected to be notified later.
Background
The train was introduced on 19 April 2017,[4] for providing better connectivity to the Eastern Kollam region with Central Kerala and as a relief for daily commuters, especially office-goers who have been relying on Venad Express.[5][6][7][8].
Route/Halts
Tirunelveli Junction → Cheranmahadevi → Ambasamudram → Kila Kadaiyam → Pavurchutram → Tenkasi Junction → Sengottai → New Aryankavu → Thenmala → Punalur → Avaneeswaram → Kottarakkara → Ezhukone → Kundara → Kilikollur → Kollam Junction → Perinad → Munrothuruthu → Sasthamkotta → Karunagappalli → Ochira → Kayamkulam Junction → Mavelikara → Cheriyanad → Chengannur→ Tiruvalla → Changanacherry → Kottayam → Kuruppantara → Vaikom Road → Piravam Road → Mulanturutti → Tripunithura → Ernakulam Town → Aluva → Thrissur → Ottapalam→ Palakkad Junction[9][10]
Rake maintenance and Sharing
After the primary maintenance at Tirunelveli Junction depot, the rake starts as 56718 (Tirunelveli Junction - Nagercoil Junction) passenger service and then to Kanyakumari as 56719 passenger. From there it goes to Punalur as 56716 and next day returns to Kanyakumari as 56715 passenger services. Then it come back to Tirunelveli Junction as 56717 passenger. Then it run as Palaruvi express to Palakkad Junction(16791) and return to Tirunelveli Junction(16792) next morning. Then to Tuticorin as 56742 and return service as 56741 passenger. After this last service the Rake takes to Tirunelveli Junction yard for its maintenance.[3]
