Necrophage
Necrophages are olophages that obtain nutrients by consuming decomposing dead animal biomass.[1] The term derives from Greek nekros, meaning 'dead', and phagein, meaning 'to eat'.
In popular culture
- The Witcher series, where 'necrophages' is a broad group of monsters that feed on corpses.
- Endless Legend, featuring the Necrophage faction, an insectoid species that both feed on corpses and inject living creatures with eggs that hatch upon death, consuming the corpse in the process.
