History

In March 2017, following a referendum to amend the constitution of July 1991, the Mauritanian National Assembly adopted a new national anthem to replace the previous one.[3]

Lyrics

The anthem has five verses, with a chorus repeated after each verse. The first verse and chorus are below including the fifth verse and the final chorus.

Arabic lyrics Transliteration French translation English translation
First verse

Bilāda l-ubāti l-hudāti l-kirām
Wa-ḥisna l-kitābi l-ladhī lā yudām
Ayā Mūrītāni rabī'i al-uyām

The country of fatherhood is the honorable gift
And the fortress of the Book, which is not bound
Ayia Moritan Spring Harmony
And the pillar of forgiveness is the hole of peace

Chorus

We will protect your fiancé and we will pay you
And hope for hope
And when we meet we will answer you

Second verse

Nmac d'Amjad exprime
L'Afrique a le plus fraisde amont

Your character has not been blocked
The sun on your forehead did not go away
Nmac of Amjad expresses
Africa has the freshest upstream

Third verse

Ra-ḍha'anā libāna n-nadā wā-l-ibā
Sajāyā ḥamalna janān ṭayibā
Wa-mar 'an ḥaṣībān, wa-in ajdabā

We gave birth to the dew and the father
A good pregnancy
And the prey of Khasibah, and if they find it
Smona, and we were welcome

Fourth verse

Your enemy has kept us young and bitter
So he got down and not stable

Fifth verse

We have made you a covenant, and our promise is a promise
We will give you a sense of generosity

Final chorus

We will protect your fiancé and we will pay you
And hope for hope
We will protect your fiancé and we will pay you
And when we meet we will answer you
