The 337-ton whaling barque went aground at Port Hutt in New Zealand's Chatham Islands. She had sheltered in the port to escape a violent southerly storm, but dragged her anchor. Despite cutting way masts to reduce danger to the ship, she was repeatedly dashed into rocks and was extensively holed.[9] All hands were saved.[10] |
