THE RICH-TWIN AIRPLANE, MODEL 1 - X - B
A bi-motored, low wing, cabin monoplane developed by Nelson B. (Bud) Rich in the N. B. Airplane Company (government approved) at the Municipal Airport in Boston, MA, in 1937.
Engineered with the assistance of three young engineers: James (Jim) Kendrick (later with Lockheed); Holden (Bob) Withington (later V.P. of Boeing); and, William (Bill) Cook (also V.P. with Boeing).
It was powered by two 75hp Lycoming GO-145 pusher engines mounted in pylons on the wings. The wing span: 34'; length: 22'; load: 600 lbs,; top speed: 130 mph; cruising speed: 118 mph; rate of climb: 850 ft/min; cruising range: 350 miles; service ceiling: 14,000'; landing speed: 48mph; min landing run: 150'.
Some features: fuselage: steel tube, fabric covered; plywood wings, twin 75hp Lycoming motors were mounted on pylons; Sensenich propellers; enclosed cabin with dual controls; Tricycle gear; steerable nose wheel; twin fins and rudders; partly retractable landing wheels; hydraulic breaks.
