Line 18 of the Chengdu Metro (simplified Chinese: 成都地铁18号线; traditional Chinese: 成都地鐵18號線; pinyin: Chéngdū Dìtiě Shíbā Hào Xiàn) or New Airport Express Line (新机场快线; 新機場快線; Xīn Jīchǎng Kuàixiàn) is an express subway line that runs from Gaoxin District to Jianyang City. The line is envisioned to serve as a express service for Line 1. The first and second phases start at Chengdu South Railway Station and end at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. The total length is 59.27 km (36.83 mi). New Airport Express Line began construction on late 2015 and is scheduled for completion by mid 2020.[1] The line will use cityrail 8 Car Type A trains which have features designed for medium distance travel, such as a 140 km/h service speed and wide station spacing.[2] The line will also feature distinct express and local services with an Airport Express service stopping only at two intermediate stations and planned to complete a trip between Chengdu South Railway Station to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in 35 minutes. The local service will stop at all stations on Line 18 and will complete the trip in 40 to 50 minutes.[3] Line 18's color is teal. The line officially started construction on August 16, 2016.[4]

Future Development

Phase III of Line 18

Line 18 is planned to extend north to Chengdu railway station serving downtown Chengdu and providing full parallel express service along the core portion of Line 1. The length of the extension is about 11.2 kilometers with 5 new stations.[5]
