Structure

NKJV groups this chapter into:

Verse 5

“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.” (NKJV)[3]
  • [4] The ideal of a "great king reigning with justice and righteousness" was founded on the promise of God to David (2 Samuel 7:16), sent directly from God as the monarchs of Israel "failed to live up to the standards of kingship" (Jeremiah 21:11-12; Jeremiah 22:1-4).[4]

Verse 6

“In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called:
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” (NKJV)[5]
