Downtown San Jose station is a proposed underground Bay Area Rapid Transit station underneath Santa Clara Street in Downtown San Jose. The station would be co-located with the Santa Clara Light Rail Station and connect to the proposed Santa Clara, Richmond and San Francisco/Daly City stations.[1] It would be preceded by the proposed Alum Rock/28th Street BART station. Revenue service is envisioned to start in 2026[2].

History

The original plan for the San Jose extension included the Downtown San Jose station, but full funding could not be secured[3] and the San Jose extension was split into two phases. Phase one, planned for completion in 2018, is the Berryessa Extension[4] into eastern San Jose. The proposed Downtown San Jose station is part of a later, unfunded phase two of the San Jose subway extension[5] and would be located between the proposed Alum Rock/28th Street and proposed Diridon BART stations. Construction is slated to begin in 2019, and passenger service to start in 2026.[6]
