Dostoevskij (sometimes Dostoevskii) is a crater on Mercury. It has a diameter of 430.06 kilometers.[1] Its name was adopted by the International Astronomical Union in 1979. Dostoevskij is named for the Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky, who lived from 1821 to 1881.[2]
Nearby craters include Barma to the east-northeast, the smaller Brooks not far from the eastern rim, and the smaller Dowland almost to the south, also to the south is Hero Rupes. Touching the north-northwest rim is Liang K'ai The 180th meridian crosses the western part of the crater.
The crater was first explored and imaged during the Mariner 10 expedition. West of the crater rim was the area that its surface remained unexplored other than the radio telescopes until the arrival of the MESSENGER spacecraft in January 2008.
