The Cheran Express is an overnight superfast express train in India which runs daily between Coimbatore city Junction and Chennai Central via Salem Jn on the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways.

Numbering

Train Number 12673 runs from Chennai Central to Coimbatore Junction while 12674 runs from Coimbatore Junction to Chennai Central.[1][2][3]. The Cheran Express began to run on LHB coaches from 10 November 2017.[4]

Coach Position

With the introduction of LHB coaches to Cheran Express, the train composition is changed and consists of one coach each of First AC cum AC 2-tier AC 2-tier, five coaches of AC 3-tier, eleven sleeper class coaches and three general second class coaches two EOG coaches. [4]

Route

Incidents

In 2005, an unknown person was killed in a fire inside a toilet on the train.[7]

In 2007, five coaches of the train derailed near Ambur due to a lower bearing failure resulting in ten passengers getting injured.[8]
