Plot

Zain, a charming boy brat, and Aaliya, a cultured and pretty girl, have been rival cousins since childhood. Eventually, when they grow up and meet each other after several years, a series of misunderstandings leads to them being forced to marry. Zain wants to get rid of her, as he never wanted to get married and only wanted to have girlfriends. Zain's brother, Fahad has two wives, Nafisa and Shazia, who hate each other. Fahad married twice because his first wife Nafisa didn't give birth to a son and his mother Suraiyya wanted a male heir. Zain and Aaliya come closer and become friends when they help Zain's brother Fahad who has landed in trouble with some goons. Meanwhile, Aaliya's sister, Aayat gets into trouble and Zain, without telling anyone, helps her out. Zain meets with an accident and is injured. During the investigation, Aaliya finds out how Zain helped Aayat and that his accident was caused by Rocky, a guy who owned a brothel who had deceived Aayat and who Zain helped put in jail.

Zain's mother, Suraiyya, who dislikes Aaliya, emotionally blackmails her which makes Aaliya leave the house. Zain finds out later and brings her back home. Fahad and Osman (Zain's father), plan to make Zain and Aaliya fall in love. In the meantime, the truth about Barkat, Zain's long lost sister, is revealed. Barkat was kidnapped by Aaliya's uncle, Mir Khan. This is why Suraiyya dislikes Aaliya and her family. Aaliya promises to bring Barkat back. Zain and Aaliya finally find Barkat and a joyous Suraiyya starts liking Aaliya and her family again, which makes Shazia and Nafisa, her other daughters-in-law, unhappy.

Then enters Zubair, Aaliya's cousin. Zain (now in love with Aaliya) feels jealous. Seeing Aayat also close to Zubair, Rizwan (brother of Nafisa and best friend of Zain) who has fallen for Aayat, also feels Jealous. At a party, Zain is led to believe that Aaliya loves Zubair (not knowing that Aaliya and Zubair are cousins) and he humiliates her. Aaliya, leaves for her hometown Bhopal and leaves a message asking him to realise his mistake. Osman advises him to get Aaliya. Zain and Aaliya finally express their love for one another.

Aaliya begins finding Barkat's behavior odd. She asks Zain to help her find out the truth. It is then revealed that Barkat is not Barkat, but is Bobby, Mir Khan's real daughter. She had planned to kill Osman, but failed. She is then thrown out of the house. Suraiyya believes Bobby (because she instigated her against Aaliya) and starts disliking Aaliya again. Osman is in an accident which leaves him paralyzed and unable to speak.

During all this, Rizwan expresses his love for Aayat and they get engaged. Shazia's sister, Gauhar, becomes pregnant with Rizwan's child. During their engagement, Aaliya reveals the truth, and Rizwan and Aayat’s engagement breaks. Because of this, Aaliya and Zain have a tiff. Aayat and Aaliya also have a falling-out. On the day of Eid, Zain gets Rizwan and Aayat secretly married. Nafisa gets Suraiyya arrested but uses Aaliya’s name to lodge the complaint. Because of this, the family starts hating Aaliya. Osman then dies and the blame falls on Aaliya, thus Zain gives her a divorce. Aaliya's friend, Rehan Khan soon finds out that Nafisa was behind all this. He exposes her by recording her confession. After this, Nafisa turns good and promises to reunite Aaliya and Zain. A heartbroken Aaliya leaves for Hyderabad without telling anyone. Once Aaliya is gone, Zain learns of her innocence, and regrets his actions.

1 year later

Zain is shown searching for Aaliya and finally finds her in Hyderabad, where she runs her own food stall with help from Rehan. Aaliya plays hard to get, but Zain manages to win her back eventually. They want to remarry, but according to the Islam laws, Aaliya would have to perform the Halala Nikaah where she must marry another man before she can remarry Zain. She chooses her trusted friend Rehan. When they are married, seeing Suraiyya’s hatred for Aaliya, Nafisa tells her the truth on the complaint, and Suraiyya apologizes to Aaliya. It is then revealed that, Rehan's wife's death was caused by Suraiyya. He gets her arrested. An angry Rehan stops Zain and Aaliya from meeting and also decides not to divorce Aaliya. He even tries to kill Aaliya. Zain saves her along with Zara (Rehan’s daughter), which makes Rehan realise his mistake, and he frees Aaliya.

Zain and Aaliya get remarried and the family is happy. During all this, Nafisa becomes pregnant again which infuriates Shazia. She plans to kill the baby along with Surraiya's sister Zareena's help. However, Shazia's last plan fails when Saif (Fahad & Shazia's son) gets involved but Nafisa saves him on time. Witnessing this, Shazia thanks Nafisa for saving her child and reveals how she planned to kill her unborn child. The family hears this and Fahad slaps Shazia but Nafisa stops him and tells him to forgive Shazia. Fahad does and the family is happy yet again. Soon after this, Zain's look-alike, Rocket, tries to take Zain's place (because he loves Aaliya), but gets exposed.

7 years later

The show ends with Zain and Aaliya have a son named Zayed who is a rival of his cousin Kashish (Rizwan & Aayat's daughter), just like Zain and Aaliya had been. Seeing them fight, Zain and Aaliya remember their journey from hatred to love.
