Athikkadai is a village in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu located near Mannargudi (south), Kumbakonam (north), Thiruvarur (east) and Thanjavur (west).
History
In the era of King Nawab and Serfoji II, Athikkadai emerged as a residential village. Its name may be derived from the tree name "Haathi" and the density of the tree "Kaadu". Over time "Haati Kaadu" became Athikkadai.
It is a modern village controlled and administered by Jamath Leaders (Mosque / Masjid administrator and treasury). The residents of this place depend on the Jamath on occasions such as death, marriage, laws, wills and trade.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Athikkadai had a population of 2756. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Athikkadai has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 69%. In Athikkadai, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
