The Echiniscidae are a family of tardigrades. One of three that form a part of the Echiniscoidea order.[1][2] The order was named by Gustav Thulin in 1928.[3]
It has the oldest genus of the Echiniscoidea order known as Echiniscus named by Karl August Sigismund Schultze in 1841.
Most of the etymology of its genera are of Greek origin.
