Novechiniscus armadilloides is a species of tardigrades. It is the only species of Novechiniscus which belongs to the family Echiniscidae. The species name is shaped like an armadillo (pronunciation: ar-ma-DEE-yo), the genus name is nova (new) in Latin and Echiniscus. There is no English name but rarely called the Utah or the Armadillo water bear.

The species is endemic to the United States in the state of Utah.[1]

The species were first named by Robert O. Schuster in 1975 and was placed in Parechiniscus genus and was called Parechiniscus armadilloides, it became the only species placed in its own genus Novechiniscus by Reinhardt Møbjerg Kristensen in 1987.
