The 2016 Hawthorne earthquakes were a series of earthquakes that struck early in the morning on December 28, 2016 near Hawthorne, Nevada. The two largest earthquakes in the sequence had local magnitudes of 5.6, and the third largest had a moment magnitude of 5.5.[1][2][3] The quakes were felt as far away as Las Vegas and San Francisco.[4]
