The 1982–83 Iraqi National League was the 9th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Salahaddin won their first ever major trophy, and became the third club since 1974 to win the league without losing a single match. They clinched the title with a 1–1 draw against runners-up Al-Talaba on the final day of the season. Their record was 22 matches, 12 wins, 10 draws, 0 losses, 24 goals scored, 6 goals conceded, +18 goal difference and 34 points. As champions, the Iraq Football Association admitted them into a friendly tournament called the Al-Wehdat Championship, which they won.[1]
