The 1976–77 Iraqi National League was the 3rd season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Due to scheduling difficulties, the season had to be cut short after 17 rounds. The Iraq Football Association decided to annul the results from the second half of the season, using the league table at the halfway stage of the campaign (when each team had played each other once) as the final standings, thus crowning Al-Zawraa the champions for their second consecutive league title.

Al-Zawraa lost one of their games in the second half of the season 3–2 against Al-Baladiyat, but because the second half of the season was annulled, Al-Zawraa finished the season without a single loss. Their record was 11 matches, 9 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses, 24 goals scored, 8 goals conceded, +16 goal difference and 20 points.[1] Runners-up Al-Jamea also finished the season unbeaten, with a record of 11 matches, 4 wins, 7 draws, 0 losses, 9 goals scored, 3 goals conceded, +6 goal difference and 15 points
