1. to assure (something إِلَى‎ (ʾilā) to somebody = assure somebody of something)
2. to confirm (a view, report, fact, etc.)
3. to corroborate (something)
4. to confirm, ratify (an agreement, engagement, etc.)
5. to emphasize, to stress (عَلَى‎ (ʿalā) something, أَنَّ‎ (ʾanna) that ...)
6. to bind firmly (a horse's or camel's saddle)

According to Lane, the more correct verb to use in place of this one is وَكَّدَ‎ (wakkada), with similar meanings.
