Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *tăp- (to find).[1] Cognate with dialectal Turkish tapmak (to find), Crimean Tatar tapmaq, Turkmen tapmak, Uzbek topmoq, Uyghur تاپماق (tapmaq). Not cognate with Turkish tapmak (to worship), which is derived from a different Proto-Turkic root.
