Charles Krauschaar

Charles Krauschaar (soms ook: Krauschar of Kraushaar) (Kassa, toen nog Hongarije, nu: Slowakije, 25 juli 1868 – Albuquerque, 3 augustus 1957) was een Hongaars-Amerikaanse componist, dirigent, arrangeur, fluitist en muziekuitgever. Voor zijn eigen werken als voor de arrangementen gebruikte hij meestal het pseudoniem: Charles J. Roberts.

Levensloop

Krauschaar studeerde harmonieleer, compositie en dwarsfluit aan de Ferenc Liszt-Akademie voor muziek in Boedapest en behaalde aldaar zijn diploma's. In 1890 emigreerde hij naar de Verenigde Staten. Hij was van 1892 tot 1893 fluitist in het New York Philharmonic. Later ging hij op tournee door de hele Verenigde Staten als fluitist met de Mozart Symphony Club. In 1895 werd hij fluitist in het Hoffmann House Orchestra in New York City. Later werd hij dirigent en directeur van deze institutie en bleef tot 1910 in deze functie.

Van 1909 tot 1940 was hij componist, arrangeur en uitgever in het Music Publishing House in New York City. Hij specialiseerde zich vooral in de bewerking en herbewerking van symfonische orkestwerken voor kleinere orkesten en arrangeerde en componeerde werken voor orkest en harmonieorkest. In 1924 werd hij lid van de American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). Hij leefde later in Palo Alto.
