Yemeksepeti (literally, 'food basket') is an online food delivery company providing the facility to place food orders online from an affiliated network of restaurants without charging the user any extra fees.[1] Yemeksepeti currently operates in 69 cities in Turkey and in Cyprus, with more than 25,000 member restaurants, 14 million users, and 480,000 daily orders.

In May 2015, Yemeksepeti joined Delivery Hero, the world's largest online food ordering platform, with the greatest valuation of Turkish internet history.

Yemeksepeti also has Yemeksepeti Vale service, which allows ordering from restaurants that do not normally do take away. With Yemeksepeti providing its own courrier service restaurants do not have to invest in a business other than their own expertise.

History

Yemeksepeti.com was founded in the year 2001 by Nevzat Aydin, Melih Odemis, Cem Nufusi and Gokhan Akan, and reached 1,000 daily orders for the first time in 2004. This number increased to 10,000 in 2008. In the same year, the company had its first round of investment and agreed to be partners with European Founders Fund.

Yemeksepeti entered the GCC region by launching out Foodonclick.com in the United Arab Emirates in 2009, starting in Dubai and expanding to Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the same year. Before the acquisition by Delivery Hero in 2015, Yemeksepeti was active in ten countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, [[Jordan], Greece, Bulgaria and Romania.

In 2012, Yemeksepeti announced a USD 44 million investment led by global growth investor General Atlantic (GA), which acquired a minority stake in the company.[2] Yemeksepeti represented GA's first investment in Turkey. Yemeksepeti increased the daily number of orders to 50,000 the same year.

Yemeksepeti activated online credit card feature in 2013. Food culture platform yemek.com was aired by the company in the following year, with the goal of “becoming the most comprehensive internet channel about food in Turkey”.

In May 2015 Yemeksepeti was acquired by the German-based Delivery Hero. It is the biggest internet acquisition of the Region.

Banabi

In April 2019, Yemeksepeti launched the online market shopping service with the Banabi sub-brand. Banabi delivers over 2,400 products to users in about 15 minutes. Currently, it started to work in 9 different countries with the same business model.

Yemek.com, launched in 2014, brings together the tricks of the classic dishes of Turkish cuisine, the wonderful interpretations of the world cuisine, places waiting to be discovered, entertaining topics in the form of lists, and the latest food trends. It reaches about 15 million unique visitors, 40 million page views and over 35 million video views every month. Yemek.com is one of the most active food channels of social media with more than 2 million Facebook fans, 1.5 million Instagram followers and 500,000 YouTube subscribers. The website, which makes all content and video production with its own expert team, develops recipes, videos and projects in cooperation with brands. Yemeksepeti-owned Yemek.com, aims to be the most comprehensive Internet channel that is identify with food in Turkey.
