Volnovakha

Volnovakha (Ukrainian: Волноваха) is a small city of district significance in Donetsk Oblast (province) of Ukraine. It serves as the administrative center of Volnovakha Raion, one of 18 districts into which Donetsk Oblast is divided. Population: 23,305(2013 est.)[1]; 24,647 (2001).

In addition to the city proper, the city municipality (council) includes the villages of Novohryhorivka, Novopavlivka and Trudove.

During the War in Donbass, on 13 January 2015, 12 civilians were killed and 18 injured, after an attack on an passenger bus at a checkpoint in Buhas, a town north-east of Volnovakha.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] A monument to those killed in the attack was unveiled on 13 January 2017.[10]
