In 2010, the Ministry of the Interior was reinstated.

The police is divided into county headquarters, however, the national headquarter is located in the capital. In addition to the police, there are national bodies such as the National Bureau of Investigation (FBI-modeled Criminal Police), TEK (Counter-Terrorism Center), which is an elite commando of heavily armed officers, and KR (Gendarmerie or Rapid Response Unit), which is a military component with jurisdiction in civil law enforcement.

On the 1st of July 2010, the government decided to set up the Counter-Terrorism Center, which was to be in charge of preventing terror attacks, serve as protection to government officials, and serve as an intelligence service. The AH (Constitution Protection Office), the Counter-Terrorism Center, the National Security Service (NBSZ) and the National Defense Service (NVSZ) are established in 2011, all are all under the command of the Minister of the Interior.

On July 1, 2012, the Republican Regiment, the entity which was in charge of the protection of government officials ceased.

Agencies under the police

In Hungary nowadays, besides the Police, the Customs and Finance Guard under the Ministry of National Economy, which was merged by the Government with the Tax and Financial Control Office, and the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) exist. The Directorate-General for Crime, which operates as a separate tax police, was established within NAV and, to a lesser extent, a government entity but to a greater extent they are specialized in detecting economic crime by professional investigators. Other law enforcement agencies include - the Non-Investigative Prison Enforcement Organization, the Disaster Protection and the Parliamentary Guard for the protection of the Parliament in Budapest. Although their employees have a uniform and a police badge, independent law enforcement agencies subordinate to the Ministry of Interior are the Counter-Terrorism Center and the National Defense Service, the latter of which has an impeccable record of life and illegitimacy. In addition, one of the civilian secret services, the Constitutional Protection Office, is increasingly acting as a police force, one of its main tasks is to monitor the activities of organized crime groups that threaten the security of the country, and its professional staff also have secret investigative powers.

On January 1, 2008, the Border Guard merged into the National Police on the basis of a law amendment, handing over its property, vehicles and other assets to the police force. Within the organization of the police, the Border Police Department has been established, which organizes and implements the detection of violations of the rules of migration and crimes against documentary security with national competence.
