History

The Pakaraima Mountains in which Paramakatoi is located have been inhabited sproadically for years. Due to its isolation and remoteness, the Patamona people have made a living in reliance for the development of subsistence agriculture and mining. Remnants of artifacts from Patamona culture are visible and culturally recognized through linguistics, mainly the Cariban language.

In 1945, pioneer Reverend J.M. Walton began his missionary work in Paramakatoi among the Amerindian tribes.

Paramakatoi is more recent as the birthplace of Ovid Williams, born in c. 1956. He is Guyana's first indigenous pilot, whose ancestors were believed to be the founders of the community.
