Metsamor Castle

Metsamor Castle is the remains of an old fortress located to the southwest of the Armenian village of Taronik, in the Armavir Province.

In the Early Iron Age, the city of Metsamor was destroyed by the Urartians.[1]

Excavations of the tombs of Metsamor Castle began in 1965. Recent work at the site has been led by Krzysztof Jakubiakby, Head of the Institute of Archeology at the University of Warsaw, who says that Metsamor "has an important role among the settlements of the Ararat Valley."[1]

Metsamor Museum

The Museum of History and Archeology at Metsamor Site was opened in 1968. It is the repository of more than 22,000 items, almost all discovered at the site.
