Metro La Raza

La Raza ("The people"; literally "The Race",[2] in reference to the la Raza socio-political concept and movement) is a transfer metro station in Gustavo A. Madero, Mexico City. It is a combined subway and surface station located between Potrero and Tlatelolco metro stations on Line 3 (Light green line), and Autobuses del Norte and Misterios metro stations on Line 5 (Yellow line) of the Mexico City Metro.[3][4][5] It serves the colonias Vallejo and Héroes de Nacozari.[3] The station consists of four side platforms, and its station logo depicts the nearby La Raza Monument, a pyramid-shaped construction erected in honor to Mexico's many native peoples and cultures.[3][4][5]

The Mexico City Metrobús bus rapid transit lines 1 and 3 also stop in the vicinity of La Raza station.[3][6] The station opened on 25 August 1978 with service on Line 3 southward towards Tlatelolco.[7] Northward service on Line 3 towards Indios Verdes started 1 December 1979.[7] Southeasterly service along Line 5 towards Consulado started on 1 July 1982, and the northeasterly service towards Politécnico started on 30 August 1982.[7]

This station has the largest cultural display in the entire Metro system, known as "El Túnel de la Ciencia" (The Tunnel of Science).[8] This permanent exhibition was installed by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in the long corridor that joins the Line 3 and Line 5 platforms.[8]

La Raza station has also an information desk and office with miscellaneous information about the Metro, science and more, and facilities for the handicapped.[3]
