The M3 (Urdu: موٹروے 3) is a north–south motorway in Pakistan, connecting the Lahore end of the M2 to M4 near Abdul Hakeem.

The M-3 motorway is parallel motorway of M-4 motorway and took eastern route from Lahore to Abdul Hakeem city, while M-4 motorway which connects M-2 to same Abdul Hakeem city.

Opening

The Lahore to Abdul Hakeem Section was inaugurated on 31 March 2019[3][4]. At Abdul Hakeem M3 joins with the parallel motorway route coming from M2 (Pindi Bhattian) & Faisalabad in a "Y" junction form. At Abdul Hakeem, the M3 & M4 join together to become M4 which travels onward to Multan.

Route

The M3 starts at the M2 in Lahore. It then goes southwest from Lahore and ends where it meets the M4[5] motorway near the city of Abdul Hakim.

Distance from Lahore to Multan:

Lahore to Abdul Hakeem section = 230 km

Multan-Abdul Hakeem section = 103 km

Total Distance, Lahore to Multan, on M3 = 333 km.

This is more than the previous distance of 323 km on National Highway N5, where the average driving speed was significantly less than the Motorway speeds of 120km/h, due to slow moving traffic.

M3 is a 6 lane highway with 3 rest areas along the route. The full length of 'Lahore to Abdul Hakeem' section of M3 was inaugurated on 30 March 2019 and was opened to traffic on 1 April 2019 on the full route from Lahore to Abdul Hakeem.[6][7]

'Exits/Entry for Multan City' M3 motorway's passes through the Multan city and there are four interchanges for Multan city. 1. Shah Shams Tabrez Interchange 2. Vehari Road Interchange 3. Bahawalpur Road Interchange 4. Sher Shah Interchange

Further Exit & Entry points for Multan are (1) on Makhdoom Rasheed/Mailsi Road, (2) on Lodhran Road/N5 highway and (3) on Shujaabad Road/N15 highway.[8]
