Lucernemines, usually written as Lucerne Mines, is a census-designated place (CDP) in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 937 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Lucerne Mines is located at 40°33′16″N 79°9′20″W (40.554447, -79.155584).[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

At the 2000 census there were 951 people in 407 households, including 293 families, in the CDP. The population density was 1,105.8 people per square mile (427.0/km²). There were 427 housing units at an average density of 496.5/sq mi (191.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.63% White, 1.05% African American, 0.11% Asian, and 0.21% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.84%.[2]

There were 407 households, 23.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% were non-families. 25.3% of households were made up of individuals, and 15.5% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.76.

The age distribution was 19.1% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 23.6% 65 or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males.

The median household income was $28,427 and the median family income was $33,580. Males had a median income of $26,719 versus $18,036 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $13,976. About 10.4% of families and 10.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.5% of those under age 18 and 4.1% of those age 65 or over.
