The most-viewed channel on the video platform YouTube is T-Series, an Indian record label known for Bollywood music.[1][2][3][4][5] T-Series became the most-viewed YouTube channel on February 16, 2017 and has over 111 billion views as of June 2020. The top 50 most viewed channels have all surpassed 10 billion views. Twenty three channels have surpassed 20 billion views, ten have surpassed 30 billion views, and only five have surpassed 40 billion views.[1] [6]

Indian record label T-Series is the most viewed YouTube channel with 111 billion views.

Historical progression of most-viewed channels

The first-created and first-viewed YouTube channel was "Jawed" created on April 23, 2005 by YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim.[61][62] The first YouTube channel to exceed 10 billion views was PewDiePie in September 2015. Since then, 118 channels have exceeded 10 billion views as of May 2020.[63]

T-Series became the most-viewed YouTube channel of 2016,[64][65][66] and exceeded 14 billion views by January 2017.[67] It eventually surpassed PewDiePie to become the most-viewed YouTube channel of all time by February 16, 2017,[68] and currently maintains the lead with over 107 billion views. T-Series has also had the most monthly views since 2016,[69][70] and currently receives over 2.8 billion views per month as of May 2019.[71]

Music is the most-viewed program genre on YouTube, across the globe.[64] By 2016, the most-viewed YouTube channels were record labels (e.g. T-Series), YouTubers (e.g. Pewdiepie), music stars (e.g. Justin Bieber), and nursery videos (e.g. Little Baby Bum).[72][73]
