Background and recording

In the fall of 2018, Ant Clemons met up with West, Chance the Rapper and Candace Owens in Chicago.[1] During a freestyle session involving him, West and Chance the Rapper, "Everything We Need" was came up with.[1] Ant Clemons revealed in October 2019 that the song stemmed from a conversation with West about Christ and stated: "A lot of the best songs come from conversations."[2] He elaborated on being around West, claiming that it "has been like the best time to absorb my surroundings. I try to listen, because you'll hear a lot of the things that you want to know, without even having to ask."[2]

"Everything We Need" is a new version of the track "The Storm".[3] The track leaked online in July 2019, with it including vocals from Ty Dolla Sign and deceased American rapper XXXTentacion, the latter of which was cut from the final version of the track.[4] "Everything We Need" was one of the three tracks that went through its mixing being fixed that lead to the release of Jesus Is King being delayed.[5]
