Cory James Abbott (born September 20, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Abbott attended Junipero Serra High School in San Diego, California. As a senior, he went 7-2 with a 1.52 ERA.[1] Undrafted out of high school in the 2014 MLB draft, he enrolled and played college baseball at Loyola Marymount University.[2] In 2016, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League.[3] As a junior in 2017, he went 11-2 with a 1.74 ERA in 15 starts[4] and threw a perfect game.[5] After the season, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft.[6]

Abbott signed with the Cubs and made his professional season with the Eugene Emeralds, compiling a 3.86 ERA over 14 innings. He pitched 2018 with the South Bend Cubs and Myrtle Beach Pelicans, going 8-6 with a 2.50 ERA in 22 starts between the two clubs,[7] and spent 2019 with the Tennessee Smokies,[8] pitching to an 8-8 record with a 3.01 ERA over 26 starts, striking out 166 over ​146 ²⁄₃ innings.

Aramis Rainier Ademán Sánchez (born September 13, 1998) is a Dominican professional baseball shortstop in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Ademán signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in July 2015.[9] He made his professional debut in 2016 with the Dominican Summer League Cubs[10] and spent the whole season there, posting a .254 batting average with 16 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 59 games.

Ademán spent 2017 with both the Eugene Emeralds and South Bend Cubs, batting a combined .267 with seven home runs and 42 RBIs in 68 total games between both teams.[11][12] After the season, he was named the Cubs number one prospect by Baseball America.[13] In 2018, he played for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans where he hit .207 with three home runs and 38 RBIs in 114 games.[14] He spent 2019 with Myrtle Beach,[15] batting .221 with five home runs, 39 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases over 112 games.

Miguel Antonio Amaya (born March 9, 1999) is a Panamanian professional baseball catcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Amaya signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in July 2015.[16] He made his professional debut in 2016 with the Dominican Summer League Cubs where he hit .245 with one home run and 22 RBIs in 58 games.

Amaya played 2017 with the Eugene Emeralds where he slashed .228/.266/.338 with three home runs and 26 RBIs in 58 games,[17] and spent 2018 with the South Bend Cubs,[18] earning Midwest League All-Star honors[19] and slashing .256/.349/.403 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs in 116 games.[20] He was selected to play in that year's All-Star Futures Game.[21]

Amaya spent 2019 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans,[22] batting .235/.351/.402 with 11 home runs and 57 RBIs over 99 games. He was also selected to the All-Star Futures Game for the second consecutive year.[23] He was selected to play in the Arizona Fall League for the Mesa Solar Sox following the season.[24]

Amaya was added to Chicago's 40–man roster following the 2019 season.[25]

Brennen Davis (born November 2, 1999) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Davis attended Basha High School in Gilbert, Arizona. He committed to play college baseball at the University of Miami.[26] Following his senior year, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft.[27][28] He signed for $1.1 million[29] and made his professional debut with the Arizona League Cubs, hitting .298 over 18 games.

Davis spent 2019 with the South Bend Cubs,[30][31] slashing .305/.381/.525 with eight home runs and thirty RBIs over fifty games.

Oscar Eduardo De La Cruz (born March 4, 1995) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

De La Cruz signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in October 2012. He made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Cubs in 2013 and pitched 2014 with them. In 2015, he played for the Eugene Emeralds.[32] After missing the first two months of the 2016 season due to injury, De La Cruz appeared in three games with the Arizona League Cubs and Euguene, before pitching for the South Bend Cubs,[33][34] where he posted a 3.25 ERA in six games. De La Cruz spent 2017 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, where he went 4-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 56.2 innings.[35] The Cubs added him to their 40-man roster after the season.[36]

MLB.com ranked De La Cruz as Chicago's third best prospect going into the 2018 season.[37]

On July 6, 2018, De La Cruz was suspended 80 games for testing positive for furosemide, which is a diuretic and masking agent.[38]

De La Cruz was reinstated from his suspension on May 3, 2019.[39] He was designated for assignment on July 31, 2019.

Ryan Austin Jensen (born November 23, 1997) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization. He played college baseball at Fresno State University.[40][41][42]

Jensen attended Salinas High School in Salinas, California. In 2016, as a senior, he went 2-5 with a 2.75 ERA.[43] He was not drafted in the 2016 MLB draft, thus enrolling at Fresno State University. He struggled as a freshman in 2017 and as a sophomore in 2018, posting ERAs of 6.60 and 5.35, respectively.[44] He broke out as a junior in 2019, going 12-1 with a 2.88 ERA in 16 games[45] and being named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year.[46]

Jensen was selected by the Chicago Cubs with the 27th overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft.[47][48][49] He signed with the Cubs for $2 million[50][51] and was assigned to the Eugene Emeralds.[52] Over six starts, he compiled a 2.25 ERA, striking out 19 over 12 innings.

Brendon David Little (born August 11, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Little graduated from Conestoga High School in 2015. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 36th round of the 2015 MLB draft, but he chose not to sign and instead decided to enroll at the University of North Carolina to play college baseball.[53] After appearing in only four games as a freshman in 2016, he transferred to the State College of Florida, Manatee–Sarasota.[54][55][56] In 2016, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and was named a league all-star.[57] In 2017, his sophomore year, he went 5-3 with a 2.53 ERA in 15 starts.[58] After his sophomore season, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the 2017 MLB draft.[59][60] He signed, and was assigned to the Eugene Emeralds, where he went 0-2 with a 9.37 ERA in six starts.[61]

Little spent the 2018 season with the South Bend Cubs, compiling a 5-11 record with 5.15 ERA in 22 games (21 starts).[62] Little began 2019 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on the injured list.[63] After being activated from the IL, he returned to South Bend before being promoted back to Myrtle Beach. Over six starts with South Bend, he compiled a 1.91 ERA, and over four starts with the Pelicans, he went 2-1 with a 5.95 ERA.

Brailyn Márquez (born January 30, 1999) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Márquez signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in August 2015. He made his professional debut in 2016 with the Dominican Summer League Cubs, going 4-2 with a 1.48 ERA over 12 starts. He played 2017 with the Arizona League Cubs, pitching to a 2-1 record and a 5.52 ERA over 11 games (nine starts), and 2018 with the Eugene Emeralds and South Bend Cubs,[64] compiling a 1-4 record with a 3.13 ERA over 12 starts.

Márquez started 2019 with South Bend before being promoted to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.[65][66] Over 22 starts between the two teams, he pitched to a 9-5 record with a 3.13 ERA, striking out 128 over ​103 ²⁄₃ innings.

Eddy Julio Martinez (born January 18, 1995) is a Cuban professional baseball outfielder in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Martinez was considered a top international free agent for 2015.[67] His signing came under some controversy as it was originally thought he had signed with the San Francisco Giants for a $2.5 million bonus, but other agents working for Martinez had worked out a $3 million bonus with the Chicago Cubs.[68] On October 19, 2015 Major League Baseball sided with the Cubs, and Martinez signed with the team.[68]

Martinez made his debut in 2016 with the South Bend Cubs and spent the whole year there, posting a .254 batting average with ten home runs and 67 RBIs in 126 games. He spent 2017 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans where he batted .244 with 14 home runs and 61 RBIs in 127 games, and 2018 with the Tennessee Smokies where he hit .221 with 12 home runs and 54 RBIs in 119 games.[69] He returned to the Smokies in 2019, batting .213 with three home runs over 39 games.

Trevor J. Megill (born December 5, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Megill attended Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California. He left high school early, and graduated through Bixby Charter School.[70] Undrafted out of high school, he attended Loyola Marymount University.[71] Megill missed his junior season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.[71] He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 3rd round, with the 104th overall selection, of the 2014 MLB draft, but did not sign and returned to college.[72] After the 2014 season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League.[73] He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 7th round, with 207th overall selection, of the 2015 MLB draft, and signed with them.[71]

Megill split the 2015 season between the AZL Padres and the Tri-City Dust Devils, going a combined 2–0 with a 3.16 ERA over 31.1 innings. Megill did not appear in a game in 2016 due to issues with bone spurs.[74] He split the 2017 season between the AZL, Tri-City, and the Lake Elsinore Storm, going 5–0 with a 2.63 ERA over 27.1 innings.[74] He split the 2018 season between the AZL, Lake Elsinore, and the San Antonio Missions, going a combined 2–1 with a 3.35 ERA over 37.2 innings.[74] He split the 2019 season between the Lake Elsinore, the Amarillo Sod Poodles, and the El Paso Chihuahuas, going a combined 2–2 with a 3.86 ERA over 60.2 innings.[74][75]

On December 12, 2019, Megill was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 2019 Rule 5 draft.[75]

Dakota Mekkes (born November 6, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Mekkes attended Jenison High School in Jenison, Michigan. As a senior in 2013, he was 6-1 with a 2.28 ERA and 73 strikeouts.[76] He went undrafted out of high school in the 2013 MLB draft and enrolled at Michigan State University where he played college baseball.[77] He redshirted his 2014 freshman season and pitched only 12 innings as a redshirt freshman in 2015, but broke out as a redshirt sophomore in 2016, going 3-2 with a 1.74 ERA in 57 relief innings, striking out 96.[78] After the season, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 10th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft.[79]

Mekkes signed and spent his first professional season with the Arizona League Cubs and Eugene Emeralds, pitching to a combined 1-1 record and a 1.80 ERA in 20 relief innings pitched between both teams. He pitched 2017 with the South Bend Cubs and Myrtle Beach Pelicans, going 8-2 with a 0.98 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP in 42 total relief appearances,[80] and started 2018 with Tennessee Smokies, with whom he was named a Southern League All-Star[81] before being promoted to the Iowa Cubs.[82][83] In 41 relief appearances between the two clubs, he was 4-0 with a 1.17 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP.[84]

Mekkes returned to Iowa for the 2019 season,[85] compiling a 4-2 record with a 5.29 ERA and 61 strikeouts over ​49 ¹⁄₃ relief innings.

Tyson Miller (born July 29, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Miller attended Shadow Hills High School in Indio, California. In 2013, as a senior, he went 6-0 with a 0.19 ERA.[86] He was not drafted in the 2013 MLB draft, thus enrolling at California Baptist University where he played college baseball.[87] In 2014, his freshman year, he appeared in 13 games (ten starts), going 7-1 with a 2.63 ERA, and in 2015, as a sophomore, he went 7-3 with a 3.32 ERA in 14 games (13 starts),[88] earning a spot on the Pacific West Conference Second Team.[89] After the 2015 season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League.[90] As a junior in 2017, Miller pitched to a 9-3 record with a 2.27 ERA in 16 games (15 starts).[91] He was named to the PacWest First Team.[92] After the season, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft.[93][94]

Miller signed with Chicago and spent his first professional season with the Arizona League Cubs and Eugene Emeralds,[95] going 2-1 with a 3.14 ERA in ​28 ²⁄₃ innings. He spent 2017 with the South Bend Cubs, pitching to a 6-7 record and a 4.48 ERA in 28 games (twenty starts), and 2018 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans,[96] going 9-9 with a 3.54 ERA in 23 starts.[97] He started 2019 with the Tennessee Smokies[98] and was promoted to the Iowa Cubs in July.[99] Over 26 starts between both teams, Miller went 7-8 with a 4.35 ERA, striking out 123 over ​136 ²⁄₃ innings.

Manuel De Jesus Rodríguez (born August 6, 1996) is a Mexican professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Cole Roederer (born September 24, 1999) is an American baseball outfielder in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Roederer attended William S. Hart High School in Newhall, California.[108] In 2018, as a senior, he batted .392 with seven home runs and 19 RBIs.[109] After his senior year, the Chicago Cubs drafted Roederer with the 77th overall pick of the 2018 MLB draft.[110][111] He signed with the Cubs,[112] forgoing his commitment to play college baseball at UCLA.[113]

After signing, Roederer was assigned to the Arizona League Cubs. He homered in his first at-bat of his first professional game.[114] He finished the year in Arizona batting .275 with five home runs, 24 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases in 36 games.[115] He spent the 2019 season with the South Bend Cubs,[116] slashing .224/.319/.365 with nine home runs, sixty RBIs, and 16 stolen bases over 108 games.

Michael Patrick Rucker (born April 27, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Rucker attended and played baseball Auburn Riverside High School in Auburn, Washington.[117] In 2011, as a junior, he was 8–2 with a 1.51 ERA.[118] Undrafted out of high school in the 2012 MLB draft, Rucker enrolled at Gonzaga University to play college baseball for the Bulldogs.[119] After his freshman year at Gonzaga, he transferred to Brigham Young University where he played baseball for the Cougars.[120] In 2016, as a junior at BYU, he was 11–1 with a 2.73 ERA over 102.1 innings,[121] earning a spot on the All-West Coast Conference First Team.[122] After his junior year, Rucker was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB draft,[123] and he signed with them for $180,000.[124]

After signing, Rucker made his professional debut with the Arizona League Cubs before finishing the season with the Eugene Emeralds; in 12.2 relief innings pitched between both teams, he did not give up an earned run and was 3–0. He began 2017 with the South Bend Cubs, and after seven relief appearances in which he compiled a 1.42 ERA, he was promoted to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, where he transitioned into a starting pitcher.[125] In 20 games (15 starts) for Myrtle Beach, he was 5–5 with a 2.51 ERA.[126] He spent the 2018 season with the Tennessee Smokies,[127] going 9–6 with a 3.73 ERA in 26 starts.[128] He returned to Tennessee to begin 2019,[129] and was promoted to the Iowa Cubs during the season. Over ​79 ²⁄₃ innings (pitched mainly in relief), Rucker compiled a 0–3 record with a 4.18 ERA and 93 strikeouts.[130]

On December 12, 2019, Rucker was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2019 Rule 5 draft.[131] On March 6, 2020, Rucker was returned to the Cubs.

Zachary Ryan Short (born May 29, 1995) is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Short attended Kingston High School in Kingston, New York and played college baseball at Sacred Heart University. In 2015, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League.[132] He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft.[133]

After signing, Short spent his first professional season with both the Arizona League Cubs and Eugene Emeralds where he batted .257 with one home run and 31 RBIs in 53 games between the two teams. He played 2017 with the South Bend Cubs and Myrtle Beach Pelicans, slashing a combined .250/.383/.419 with 13 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases in 131 games, and 2018 with the Tennessee Smokies,[134][135] hitting .227 with 17 home runs and 59 RBIs in 124 games.[136]

The Cubs invited Short to spring training in 2019.[137] He began 2019 with the Iowa Cubs,[138] but also spent time with Tennessee and in the Arizona League while rehabbing. Over 63 games in total for the season, Short batted .235 with six home runs and 25 RBIs. Following the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League with the Mesa Solar Sox.[139]

Short was added to Chicago's 40–man roster following the 2019 season.[140]

Justin C. Steele (born July 11, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Steele attended George County High School in Lucedale, Mississippi.[141] He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fifth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.[142] He made his professional debut with the Arizona League Cubs, compiling a 2.89 ERA in 18.2 innings pitched.

Steele pitched 2015 with the Eugene Emeralds, going 3-1 with a 2.66 ERA in ten starts, and 2016 with the South Bend Cubs, pitching to a 5-7 record with a 5.00 ERA in 19 starts. He started 2017 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, but had his season cut short in August due to injury which required Tommy John Surgery.[143][144] In 20 starts prior to the injury, he went 6-7 with a 2.92 ERA. He returned from the injury in 2018 and pitched for the Arizona League Cubs, Myrtle Beach and Tennessee Smokies, pitching to a combined 2-2 record with a 2.31 ERA in 11 starts.[145] After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League.[146] The Cubs also added him to their 40-man roster after the season.[147]

Steele returned to the Smokies in 2019,[148] going 0-6 with a 5.59 ERA over 11 starts.

Keegan Cole Thompson (born March 13, 1995) is an American baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Thompson attended Cullman High School in Cullman, Alabama.[149] As a sophomore in 2011, he was named Alabama's Gatorade Player of the Year after finishing the season with a 9-2 record and a 1.70 ERA along with batting .433 with 17 home runs and 66 RBIS.[150] He won the award once again as a senior in 2013 after going 9-2 with a 1.25 ERA, striking out 124 batters in 72.2 innings pitched, along with hitting .420 with nine home runs and 43 RBIs.[151] Undrafted out of high school, he enrolled at Auburn University where he played college baseball for the Auburn Tigers.[152]

In 2014, as a freshman for the Tigers, Thompson appeared in 14 games (with 12 being starts) in which he compiled a 5-3 record with a 2.01 ERA, earning him a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.[153] As a sophomore in 2015, he pitched to a 7-3 record with a 3.10 ERA in 12 games (11 starts) in a season that was shortened due to elbow issues.[154] He underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2015, and was forced to miss the whole 2016 season.[155] Despite not pitching in 2016, he was still drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 33rd round of the 2016 MLB draft, but did not sign.[156] He returned in 2017 as a redshirt junior, compiling a 7-4 record and a 2.41 ERA in 15 starts.[157] After the season, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2017 MLB draft.[158] He signed with the Cubs for $511,900.[159]

After signing, Thompson made his professional debut with the Eugene Emeralds where he was 1-2 with a 2.37 ERA in 19 innings pitched. He began 2018 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, with whom he was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week twice.[160][161] After compiling a 3-3 record with a 3.19 ERA in 12 starts, he was promoted to the Tennessee Smokies in June.[162] He spent the remainder of the season with the Smokies, going 6-3 with a 4.06 ERA in 13 starts.[163]

Thompson returned to Tennessee to begin the 2019 season.[164] He was placed on the injured list in April with an undisclosed injury,[165] and only made two rehab appearances during the remaining months of the season. He was selected to play in the Arizona Fall League for the Mesa Solar Sox following the season.[166]

Erich Uelmen (born May 19, 1996) is an American baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Uelmen attended Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he played baseball. In 2014, his senior year, he earned All-State honors after going 9-1 with a 1.19 ERA, striking out 89 batters over ​58 ²⁄₃ innings alongside batting .510.[167] Undrafted in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, he enrolled at California Polytechnic State University where he played college baseball.

In 2015, Uelmen's freshman year at Cal Poly, he appeared in 16 games (making one start) in which he went 0-1 with a 7.08 ERA over twenty innings.[168] That summer, he played in the Northwoods League with the Eau Claire Express.[169] As a sophomore at Cal Poly in 2016, Uelmen went 5-3 with a 3.68 ERA, striking out seventy over 93 innings.[170] Following the season, he played in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, going 2-1 with a 4.87 ERA over twenty innings.[171] In 2017, his junior season, he pitched to a 4-8 record with a 2.93 ERA over 15 starts, earning Big West Conference Second Team honors.[172] After the season, he was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft.[173][174][175]

Uelmen signed with the Cubs and made his professional debut with the Eugene Emeralds, compiling a 2.04 ERA over ​17 ²⁄₃ innings.[176] In 2018, he began the season with the South Bend Cubs[177] before being promoted to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in June. Over 21 games (twenty starts) between the two teams, he went 8-8 with a 3.83 ERA, striking out 82 over ​89 ¹⁄₃ innings.[178] Uelmen returned to Myrtle Beach to begin the 2019 season before earning a promotion to the Tennessee Smokies in July, with whom he finished the season; over 17 starts with both clubs, he pitched to a 5-6 record with a 4.55 ERA, compiling 76 strikeouts over 91 innings. Following the season, he was selected to play in the Arizona Fall League with the Mesa Solar Sox.[179][180]
