Bhadrapur Airport

Bhadrapur Airport (IATA: BDP, ICAO: VNCG), also known as Chandragadhi Airport,[1] is an airport serving Bhadrapur Municipality,[2] in the Jhapa District of Province No. 1, Nepal. It is the sole domestic airport in Jhapa district. The airport has served as an airfield since November 1963.[4] Originally a grass runway, it was re-laid in concrete and has been extended several times. The airport was named "Airport of the Year 2013" by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.[5] Bhadrapur offers a gateway to the eastern Himalayan regions such as Ilam, Taplejung, Panchthar and trekking to the base camp of Kanchanjunga.It is only one and a half hour drive away from the Bagdogra airport and Siliguri. Siliguri being the gateway to Sikkim, Darjeeling and the north-eastern Indian states.

Facilities

The airport is located at 300 feet (91 m) elevation. It has one runway designated 10/28 with an asphalt surface measuring 1,500 by 30[6] metres (4,921 ft × 98 ft).[1] All commercial airlines operate through one small terminal of Bhadrapur Airport. On 31 January 2018, Prime Minister K.P. Oli inaugurated a newly built RNAV system at the airport, making it capable of handling night flights.[7]
