Xavier Filoitumua Su’a-Filo (born January 1, 1991) is an American football guard for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at UCLA.

Early years

A native of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Su’a-Filo attended Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, where he was an All-American offensive lineman and teammates with Stephen Paea. Regarded as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, Su’a-Filo was ranked as the number seven offensive tackle in his class.[1]

College career

Su’a-Filo started 13 games as a freshman in 2009, before going on a Mormon mission to Florida and South Alabama for two years.[2][3] He rode a special ordered bike capable for his 300-pound frame during his mission work from January 2010 to December 2011.[4]

During the 2013 season, Su'a-Filo started every game for the Bruins.

On January 5, 2014, he decided to forgo his senior year at UCLA and made himself available for the 2014 NFL Draft.[5]

Su'a-Filo majored in history with a minor in Spanish at UCLA.

Houston Texans

Su'a-Filo was selected by the Houston Texans with the first pick in the second round (33rd overall), to become the highest selected UCLA Bruins offensive lineman since Jonathan Ogden in 1996.

Su'a-Filo played in thirteen games, starting one, for the Texans in his rookie season in 2014. He played in eleven games, starting nine, for the team in 2015.[7]

In 2016 and 2017, Su'a-Filo started 31 of 32 games at left guard for the Texans.

Tennessee Titans

On March 27, 2018, Su'a-Filo signed with the Tennessee Titans.[8] He was released on September 1, 2018.[9]

Dallas Cowboys

On September 11, 2018, Su'a-Filo was signed by the Dallas Cowboys.[10]

Personal life

Su’a-Filo is fluent in Spanish. He learned the language on his two-year church mission trips to Alabama and Florida. He was a high school teammate of current Baltimore Ravens defensive end Bronson Kaufusi and former NFL defensive tackle Stephen Paea. Su'a-Filo has three siblings: Hayley, Natasha, and Wilson.
