Irish pop vocal group Westlife has released ten studio albums, two extended plays, one live album, three box sets, thirty-two singles, fifteen promotional singles, nine compilation albums and forty-four music videos. Formed in 3 July 1998, the group was made up of singers Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Shane Filan, and Brian McFadden who quit the band in 9 March 2004. The band was signed under Sony BMG, Syco Music, Sony Music Entertainment and RCA Records from 1999-2012 and currently on Universal Music Group and Virgin EMI Records. The last four members remained active until their last live concert performance in the Europe's third largest stadium Croke Park in 23 June 2012. Based on BPI certifications, the group have sold 20.2 million records and videos in the United Kingdom alone across their 14-year career–6.8 million singles, 11.9 million albums and 1.5 million videos. Their biggest selling album is their first Unbreakable compilation, followed by Coast to Coast, with six of their albums selling one million copies or more. Their biggest selling video is "Where Dreams Come True", which has sold 240,000 copies to date.[1][2][3] The band was viewed with total of over a billion views in YouTube,[4] were streamed more than 300 million times,[5] and more than 550 million times in Spotify.
In 2012, the Official Charts Company listed Westlife 34th amongst the biggest-selling singles artists in British music history. They are currently the sixteenth overall biggest group of all time.[6][7] As of August 2015, the group has sold 55 million records worldwide.[8][9][10] They accumulated a total of 26 top ten hits including 14 number one singles and 11 top 5 albums in the United Kingdom.[11][12][13] Despite their success worldwide, Westlife never managed to break into the United States, achieving only one hit single in 2000, their debut single "Swear It Again", which peaked at number 20 on Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Gold.
However, "Swear It Again" was the band's first number-one single in the United Kingdom and Ireland followed by fourteen more number-ones from their second single "If I Let You Go", then "Flying Without Wings", "I Have a Dream/Seasons in the Sun", "Fool Again", "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)", "My Love", "Uptown Girl", "Queen of My Heart", "World of Our Own", "Unbreakable", "Tonight/Miss You Nights", "Mandy", "You Raise Me Up", and "The Rose" from 1999 to 2006. While their biggest selling original song in the UK, "What Makes a Man", settled at number-two together with "Us Against the World", "When You Tell Me That You Love Me", "What About Now", "Obvious", "Home", "Hey Whatever", and "Amazing". "Bop Bop Baby" and "Safe" were marked at the top 4. "Something Right" and "I'm Already There" settled at the top 75 being not officially released as a proper single. Their last single to-date "Lighthouse" made it the top 40. "When You're Looking Like That" and "I Lay My Love on You" are some tracks that reached the top 10 in the singles charts outside UK and Ireland. They have other notable tracks like "Beautiful in White", "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" and "I Wanna Grow Old With You" which all have more than a 100 million views on YouTube.
The group's debut international self-titled album, Westlife (1999) was number-one in several countries which was followed by Coast to Coast (2000), World of Our Own (2001), Unbreakable - The Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (2002) and Turnaround (2003) which continued the group's success worldwide. The four remaining member continued as a group to release their cover albums Allow Us to Be Frank (2004) and The Love Album (2006) and the studio albums' Face to Face (2005) and Back Home (2007). After a one-year hiatus in 2008, they regrouped and released a comeback album Where We Are (2009), and their last studio album Gravity (2010) and compilation album Greatest Hits (2011).
