Vaniya Chettiar

Vaniya Chettiar is a community found in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Their major professions include running oil mills and selling groceries (mostly food grains). Vaniyambadi, near Vellore, was originally a Vaniya Chettiar town (most of the chettiars have moved to neighboring towns). Vaniya Chettiars perform upanayanam and wear yellow colored sacred thread. They employ Brahmins as their priests. Their rituals and customs are similar to that of Brahmins.[1]
