The Try Guys[1] is a comedy series featuring personalities Keith Habersberger, Ned Fulmer, Zach Kornfeld, and Eugene Lee Yang, who write, produce, direct, shoot and act in each episode.[2][3]
They started in 2014 when they posted "Guys Try Ladies' Underwear for the First Time" under Buzzfeed Motion Pictures. Since then, their viral videos have garnered over a billion views across social media platforms. Their show Squad Wars[4] premiered on YouTube Red in early 2017. Their most notable video, "The Try Guys Try Labor Pain Simulation," has garnered over thirty million views.[5]
The Try Guys have been the subject of considerable publicity with appearances on Today and several magazines for various videos and interviews.[6][7][8][9][10][11] The Try Guys were a 2017 Streamy Awards audience choice nominee for Show of the Year.[12]
On June 16, 2018, The Try Guys announced that they had left BuzzFeed and started their own independent production company, 2nd Try LLC.[13][14]
Background
The group was formed at Buzzfeed in 2014 by four then-employees: Ned Fulmer, Eugene Lee Yang, Keith Habersberger, and Zach Kornfeld. The original video that starred all four men was based around pure timing and, according to Kornfeld, "It really came down to who was willing to show their butts."[15] At the start of the series, they attempted to involve other people in the project, to no avail. Lee Yang has joked that "we're basically the Try Guys because we're the grossest people at Buzzfeed."[16] However, with the extremely positive feedback from viewers, the group decided to stick together and create videos.
In 2018, the group launched an independent production company named 2nd Try LLC, under which the group gained all rights to The Try Guys brand, such as its social media presence. They are still connected to Buzzfeed, as Buzzfeed has retained the rights of the group as a branded content and advertising sales representative.[17] The group promised, with the new company, "a brand-splankin' new slate of digital shows, live tours, feature films, and hopefully someday, customizable toasters."[18]
