Slaithwaite railway station serves the village of Slaithwaite near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. The station is 4 miles (6 km) west of Huddersfield railway station on the Huddersfield Line between Huddersfield and Manchester Victoria.

The station is situated between the centre of the village and the "Hill Top" residential area. The station has two platforms with a car park and bus stop at the approach to Platform 2. The current station was opened on 13 December 1982 by Metro (the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive) and British Rail. The Huddersfield-bound platform is on the site of an earlier four platform station which opened in 1849 and closed on 7 October 1968.[1] The current Stalybridge-bound platform is on the site of the old goods yard.

Facilities

The station is unmanned. In September 2018 there is no means of buying a ticket on the station, the former machine on the eastbound platform having been removed in July 2018. There are basic shelters on both platforms, along with timetable poster boards and digital information displays. Train running information can also be obtained by telephone. Step-free access to both platforms (which are staggered) is available via ramps from the nearby road (westbound) or through the station car park (eastbound).[2] Despite the published information, the access to the westbound platform is in fact via the car park, and to the eastbound from the nearby road.

Platforms on both Eastbound and Westbound sides of the station were extended in May 2018 and can now accommodate four cars of the six-car trains (pairs of 3 car sets) often used to provide the reduced service offered since May 2018. In September 2018 a small passenger shelter was erected on the westbound platform and a larger one on the eastbound platform, replacing the previous ones.

Services

As of May 2018, Slaithwaite is served by an hourly TransPennine Express service from Manchester Piccadilly station to Hull throughout the week (including Sundays).[3] Additional trains between Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly provided by Northern run in the morning peak but do not stop at Slaithwaite westbound in the mornings, nor eastbound in the evenings.

All other TransPennine Express services pass through Slaithwaite without stopping.
